The Immortal Greek Gods of Olympus

The Immortal Greek Gods of Olympus

Immortals are beings that are immune to all weapons and any kind of damage, including that which would easily kill a mortal. Gods and certain magical creatures are immortal, unable to die by the passage of time, immune to all human and supernatural diseases, and able to survive damage that would easily destroy a human. It must be noted however that a sufficient injury from certain sources can still kill them.

Most Greek Gods, Norse Gods, and some monsters fall under this category. Some of them, however still age until they achieve their Immortality and once achieved do not age.

In the God of War Series

Many Immortal beings are encountered through the God of War series, including gods and titans. However, being Immortal in the God of War universe means safety only from natural death. Due to their eternal lifespans, gods and titans could only be killed by the power of other immortals. Such as fellow gods and titans, demigods (if powerful enough) or weapons holding godly power such as the Blade of Olympus, the Gauntlet of Zeus, the Blade of the Gods, and most notably, the power of Hope.

However, through the use of Vanir magic, it is possible for a god to become truly immortal in the sense that killing them becomes impossible due to a spell that makes them deathless. The cost of this absolute invulnerability is that the one who obtains it will be unable to feel, taste or smell - making it so that things like drinking, feasting and even temperature are nullified to the user, ironically making it so that they feel as if they aren't alive without any sensory input, being incapable of feeling pain as well as pleasure. This was done to Baldur by his mother, Freya, who became worried when she learned of a prophecy that her son would die a needless death that would begin the three-year long Fimbulwinter that would pave way for Ragnarök. The only way to remove the curse is through the affected making contact with mistletoe.

The more powerful the Immortal, the more difficult it proved to kill them. Zeus, for instance, survived multiple stab wounds inflicted with the Blade of Olympus, one of the only weapons capable of dispatching gods that also killed Athena with just one stab, while the numerous undead soldiers fought by Kratos fell by the dozens to almost any weapon he used.

The majority of the immortal beings in the series are listed below:
