Greek Mythology
Jason was the famous hero of Greek mythology who went in search of the Golden Fleece along with his loyal crew, the Argonauts.
God of War II
Jason and his men had journeyed to the Island of Creation for some unknown reason (they may have came across on the island on their way back to Iolcus after finding the Golden Fleece), but they all ended up getting killed by the monsters in the Bog of the Forgotten. Jason himself, however, was partially eaten by a Mole Cerberus, who had then also eaten the Golden Fleece, which Jason had in his possession, right before Kratos came along and took the Golden Fleece for himself.
Trivia
- In the novelization of God of War II, Jason survives his encounter with the Mole Cerberus and is rescued by Kratos. He then reveals that he sought the Sisters of Fate because he regretted leaving Medea for Creusa and wished to be reunited with her and their children.[1]
- He recognized Kratos as the God of War but unlike Theseus was unaware of the fact that he had fallen from grace. After asking Kratos to return him the Fleece and be blessed by the Gods, he is shocked to hear from the Ghost of Sparta that he wants nothing to do with Olympus other than killing Zeus. As the power of the Fleece was the only way to survive the Temple of Euryale he tried to lunge at Kratos and stab him in the chest, but the Spartan was able to dodge and twist the dagger into Jason's heart. Kratos held him by the throat until he died and remarked approvingly that it is best to die in combat.
- Soon after that, Hermes became aware of Jason's death and the Golden Fleece being now in Kratos' possession and leveraged that information in his meeting with Atropos.
